There are many recipes, but my grandmother's Fire Cider consists of fresh garlic, onions, ginger, and chili peppers that sit in apple cider vinegar for a month, then get strained, and then I add honey at the end. This remedy is used to help warm up the body, and has antimicrobial properties. It is to be used during cold and flu season (i.e. fall and winter).
Therapeutic usage: Helps ward off cold and flu; warms you up in cold weather; Gargle for a sore throat.
Per 32 oz. Apple Cider Vinegar 1 large lemon, sliced rind and all (optional)
1 head garlic chopped 1 onion chopped
1⁄2 cup grated fresh ginger 2 tbsp turmeric powder
1 teaspoon dried rosemary 1 teaspoon dried thyme
A couple pinches of black pepper 1 tsp cayenne pepper
1⁄4 cup of elderberries Honey (1 oz : 8 oz ratio) at the end!
1) Blend ingredients in 64 oz mason jar.
2) Pour in Apple Cider Vinegar, making sure all ingredients are covered.
3) Cap the jar (use parchment paper under cap) and steep for around one month.
4) Press through cloth and add 1 oz of honey to every 8 oz of fire cider. Mix well.
5) When stored in your fridge it can last up to 1 year with no loss of effect.
DOSAGE
Take a tablespoon or small shot each day to stay healthy during the damp and cold fall and winter. You can take it straight, or dilute with water to taste. You can even cook with it and sprinkle it on your salads!
