Why BHKIRA uses the Menkyo Kaiden system of advancement, as opposed to the Dan/Kyu method.

The Menkyo system dates back to the 8th century A.D. and was used for "classical" martial arts, but also for such arts as sumi-e or "ink-wash" painting; chado or "tea ceremony"; ikebana or "flower-arranging"; and shodo or calligraphy. All of these arts have a common theme in the historical and/or cultural essence of the times, the theme of discipline and dedication leading to refinement and eventually, enlightenment.
